Our Staff

The staff members at South Hill Baptist Church have spent many years devoted to faith in Christ. Each one enjoys sharing their faith and ministry with others in our church community. Although every member is considered a minister, here are some of the leaders here at South Hill, starting with:

Eric Turner came to us in what could be considered an unusual way -- perhaps even a providential way. His original plan was to further his seminary education in the Pacific Northwest, moving here from New Mexico. We invited him to preach for us on a short-term basis and live in our parsonage, which he and his wife did at the end of November 2007. Then, at the first of the year, we made him our interim pastor. A few months later, we asked him to stay and be our full-time pastor. He and his wife Sandy have been here ever since.

Being a very down to earth kind of person, Pastor Eric's preaching and teaching ministry is relevant to our times, practical in nature, and indepth. His counseling is based on a lifetime of studying the most practical book ever written, the Word of God. We invite you to come, meet, and hear our pastor.

Ron has been a deacon here at South Hill since 1986. Along with his ministry as an overseer, he also encourages church families who are struggling in one way or another. Feel free to contact Ron at 253-848-3673 (home), or 253-686-3538 (cell).

One of the most visible members of a church staff is the music director. Working in advance of Sunday morning services, Carol coordinates with several others to bring about a meaningful worship experience for everyone. Not limited to music selections, Carol draws our hearts together in corporate worship.

Fran leads by example. This past summer, she went on her second mission trip to Africa. Afterward, she shared with us some of her experiences and photos of the trip. No doubt, she would love to go back. Fran's example inspires the rest of us to be more involved in missions in various ways, including local outreach, as well as state, national and international efforts. Always in the know, Fran encourages our church to fulfill the Great Commission.

As one who works well with people, Nancy heads up the personnel committee that hires, trains, pays and evaluates staff members. She also chairs the pastor search committee whenever necessary. Because she is such a cheerful person, this becomes a pleasant experience for everyone.

While Carol Wells is living in Australia, where her husband Leo has been temporarily transferred, Sandy Turner has been given the responsibility of leading worship, including playing the piano or keyboard, and leading the South Hill Singers. She is a very talented person and really knows her stuff!

Also, Sandy is taking care of the church finances until we decide on a new church treasurer. Again, she is doing a fine job.

A facility as large needs someone who can keep it maintained, in good repair and used to its fullest capacity. Milton does just that. The widening of 112th Street, in the near future, presents a significant challenge. Knowing what will happen and when requires constant communication with Pierce County and the various contracters. That is right up Milton's alley. We are glad to have him.
